Cedric Mullins led off the bottom of the eighth inning in Monday's divisional matchup against the Boston Red Sox. The infield was shifted strongly towards the right as the Red Sox defense anticipated a pulled hit ball from the red-hot outfielder. Mullins hit a shallow pop up towards the left side of the infield, 70.7 mph off of his bat, per Statcast. Xander Bogaerts sprinted back across the diamond, bobbled the baseball and was ultimately unable to make the play. What should have been a routine pop-up turned into an incredible hustle play from Cedric Mullins, who turned the lazy hit into an unorthodox triple.
