Pete Alonso became the first Mets rookie to homer in his first two career games when he went deep in the first inning on Opening Day. The first-year first baseman then hit a go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth to lead New York to a 5-3 win over Washington at Nationals Park. Alonso, who set a Mets rookie record with 53 homers, went 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBIs on the day.
