Pete Alonso became the first Mets rookie to hit 50 home runs in a season when he connected on a 3-2 slider from Miami's Pablo Lopez in the 5th inning on September 28 at Citi Field. The 24-year-old first baseman, who was drafted in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of the University of Florida, joined Aaron Judge (2017) as the only rookies in MLB history to reach the 50-homer mark. Alonso's milestone home run came in front of a sellout crowd of 44,572 fans.
