Acquired by Oakland this past offseason after debuting for the Padres on May 11 of last season, the 26-year-old Allen was still in search for his first career big-league home run after 39 MLB games. The catcher certainly made his first one count as he crushed a two-run homer off reliever Ian Gibaut in the seventh inning, putting the Athletics ahead 5-3. As manager Bob Melvin said of Austin's longball "this will be a day that he'll remember forever."
