Pitching in only his fifth Major League start, May was the first Dodgers rookie to start an opener since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981. The 6'6" right-hander was solid – scattering seven singles across 4.1 innings while striking out four. He averaged 95.8 MPH on his fastball and flashed triple digits on the radar gun a few times as well.
