After a phenomenal sophomore season in which he was named 2019 All-Star Game MVP and led the big leagues in Complete Games and Shutouts, Shane picked up where he left off last season against the Royals. The righthander struck out 14 batters in six innings, one short of the Opening Day record of 15 whiffs set by Camilo Pascual in 1960. His performance did however surpass Bob Gibson and Lon Warneke for the most strikeouts without allowing a run on Opening Day.
