With a three-pitch strike out of Padres center fielder Manuel Margot in the sixth inning, Max Scherzer recorded the 2,500th strikeout of his career, becoming just the 35th pitcher in MLB history to accomplish the feat. Scherzer also became the third fastest by games to reach 2,500 strikeouts, trailing only Randy Johnson (313) and Nolan Ryan (338).
