On this day, Don Mattingly tied an interesting, then-81-year-old record held by fellow New York Yankees first baseman Hal Chase. In what was a 7-1 victory for the Yankees over the Minnesota Twins, Mattingly would record an astonishing 22 putouts. Mattingly, who despite going hitless in all four of his at-bats on the day, put on an incredible show in the field and which contributed significantly to his Club's triumph over the Twins.
