His average fastball velocity increased each inning, starting the game at 93 mph and finishing with a 96.5-mph heater. The left-hander took a perfect game bid into the ninth inning before a hit batsman allowed the first runner to reach. Carlos ultimately got the final hitter out and was instantly mobbed by his teammates in front of the roaring Chicago crowd.
