JUNE 17, 1962 — During his 1962 rookie campaign with the Chicago Cubs, Lou Brock accomplished a feat that had never been done in a Major League game at the Polo Grounds. In the first inning of game one in the doubleheader against the New York Mets, Brock stepped up to the plate, connected on a pitch from Al Jackson and sent it into the right-center-field stands. The ball had a projected traveled distance of 460 feet and was the first time, up until that point, anyone had reached that part of the ballpark on a deep fly.
