In a spectacular on-field performance that is wrapped in lore, Pittsburgh Pirates starter Dock Ellis simply overmatched the San Diego Padres hitters during his unorthodox, complete-game no-hitter. The 25-year-old right-hander scattered eight walks, recorded a hit batsman and allowed three stolen bases over the course of his nine-inning effort. Despite the nine base runners, Ellis held the Padres hitless, resulting in zero runs scored in a 2-0 victory.
