With the 25th pick of the 2009 MLB Draft, the Angels selected outfielder Mike Trout out of Millville Senior High School in New Jersey. The six-foot-two slugging prospect was highly sought out by Angels area scout, Greg Morhardt. Every team selecting in the first round was fascinated by Trout's physique and rare speed for just an 18-year-old. Following the selection, Morhardt was quoted describing Trout's prolific makeup as "the biggest freak on the planet."
