MAY 16, 1998 — In a night contest against the Florida Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire hit one of the furthest home runs in Major League Baseball history. "Big Mac" struck a ball off Livan Hernandez to dead-center field that was estimated to travel 545 feet. The ball landed well up into the second deck, leaving the fans at Busch Stadium in awe, as this was the furthest home run hit at the historic ballpark.
