During the Los Angeles Dodgers 2021 season opener, Cody Bellinger was part of one of the most bizarre baserunning mishaps. With Justin Turner on first base, the 2019 NL MVP deposited a ball over the left center wall in the top of the 3rd inning. Turner believed the home run was robbed, prompting him to return back to first base. Bellinger inadvertently passed Turner on the base path, as he knew the ball was gone. This allowed the umpires to call Bellinger out, as you are not allowed to pass a base runner. Cody was ultimately credited with a single and an RBI, but no home run.
