Although it was early in the 1984 MLB season, it was starting to be very apparent that hitters were going to have their hands full with the New York Mets teenage phenom Dwight Gooden. At only 19-years-old, the slender right-hander possessed a dazzling array of pitches, all very difficult to get good wood on. The Montréal Expos came to know this, as Gooden struck out 10 of them over seven innings – becoming the first teenager in over 14 years to strike out that many.
