Faces the minimum in near-perfect, 12-K no-hitter
John Means is the first Baltimore Orioles pitcher to individually throw a no-hitter since Hall-of-Famer Jim Palmer in 1969. The 28-year-old southpaw was brilliant all game, complementing his low-90s mph sinker with his top-tier, off-speed repertoire. Despite retiring all 27 batters he faced, he was not perfect. Means is the first pitcher in MLB history to toss a “non-perfect” no-hitter, meaning, he didn’t allow any walks, did not hit any batters, and no batter reached base on an error. The perfect game opportunity was lost due to a batter reaching base from a dropped third strike in the third inning. On the year, John owns a 4-0 record with a 1.37 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 46 innings of work.
