Entering the contest between the Baltimore Orioles and the Minnesota Twins with 499 home runs, Harmon Killebrew was set to square off against southpaw Mike Cuellar in hopes to reach the coveted five century mark. The 35-year-old from Payette, Idaho, hammered a 385-foot longball in the first inning to become just the 10th player in MLB history to hit 500 homers. Killebrew would attain this historic feat in front of 15,881 eager home fans at Metropolitan Stadium.
