JULY 13, 1971 — In just the second MLB All-Star Game appearance of his illustrious career, 25-year-old Reggie Jackson left the crowd of 53,559 at Tiger Stadium in awe with a towering, two-run moonshot that hit the light transformer on the right-center field roof top. The machine was estimated to be approximately 520 feet away from home plate where the ball reportedly reached its apex. NL manager Sparky Anderson was quoted saying, "It wasn't even at its peak when it hit the transformer, for me that's the hardest home run I've ever seen."
