Pete Alonso becomes the fastest player in Mets history to reach 20 home runs, doing so in just his 58th game of the season. The rookie first baseman slugged his 20th homer of the year on May 25, 2019, off Miami Marlins starter Jose Urena at Citi Field. The blast came in the fourth inning and traveled 420 feet to left-center field. Alonso set a new franchise record for home runs by a Mets rookie, surpassing Darryl Strawberry's previous mark of 26 set in 1983. The slugger would go on to break the Mets' single-season rookie home run record and finish with 53 homers, setting a new MLB rookie record.
